Way Too Involved Husband

I have a three step process I like to use when looking at houses....

1) Find a cool house on zillow and stare at pictures, imagining how cool it would be to live there.
2) Go see the house, take tons of pictures, make a bunch of design simulations with our furniture in it and talk my wife's ear off about it.
3) Find a house I like better and never speak of it again

After realizing that there was no such thing as too much space, we decided to look into Ryan Homes since the price per square foot was similar to "used" houses. We had our hearts set on living in Victor, since the taxes are low and Karla's friends are all out that way. We tried to find lots of our own but realized we had to pick between 50 foot hills or houses in the boonies where there are more cows than people. We found the Tuscany Hills development and realized it was a nice compromise. We fell in love with the Avalon floor plan and started imagining the possibilities. As per step 2, I designed the entire floor plan to scale in 3D and included our furniture. Here is what I came up with:

The Backyard Patio

Our Exterior Elevation B. We want to attempt to place shutters on the outside despite being told that they wont fit. We also have an entrance to our office space which will be our unused 3rd garage bay.

Family Room Idea...We plan to add faux stone panels to dress up the fireplace, have our daughter sew some custom curtains and give it the "HGTV" treatment. We can't wait!
First Floor 2D Floor Plan

We attempted to make quite a few alterations to the floor plan and many were unsuccessful. However we were able to get them to agree to make the following changes. (Side note: we may be the world's most annoying buyers)

1. Place french doors and a coat closet on living room entrance to turn it into a usable bedroom space
2. Add patio doors to first floor bedroom to provide entry and exit to the patio
3. Replace powder room with laundry hookups for a laundry closet
4. Move regular laundry room upstairs to walk-in closet
5. Replace laundry room with walk-in kitchen pantry
6. Move powder room to previous pantry location

Okay thats all for now. I will post more tomorrow...We wish we had started this blog during this whole process, but we change our minds every 5 minutes so it wasn't a sure thing til tonight. :)

  2. You are doing an awesome job with all on your plate. Thank God the builders seem to get it done in a timely manner. Before you know it you will be busy packing. Throw it all in a box, soccer gear, dance schedule, cameras and a few kids and you are good to go! Let the party begin..LOL !
